Mission
The mission of the Precision Agriculture Center is to foster the use of Precision Agriculture (PA) techniques through collaborative research, education, and outreach programs.
History
The Precision Agriculture Center was formed in 1995 by the late Dr. Pierre C. Robert, who was Director of the Center. Dr. David Mulla was the Associate Director for Research. Emeritus Professors Bill Larson, Dick Rust and H. H. Cheng provided significant help planning the International Conferences on Precision Agriculture from 1992 through the present.
Activities
- Host the International Precision Ag Conferences (2004: 500 people from 35 countries and 42 states)
- Publish Conference Proceedings
- Founded Journal of Precision Agriculture
- Maintain Prec. Ag listserv and PAC website
- Train-the-Trainer programs
- Host visiting scientists from around the world, MOU’s with China, Japan, Germany, France, Costa Rica
- Develop curricula and teach Precision Ag overview course
- Research projects include:
- Midwestern Water Quality Project (CAP)
- Coordinator for Consortium for Site Specific Management (USDA-FRA)
- Modeling and Visualization of Remote Sensing and Terrain Data for Precision Ag (USDA-CSREES)
- New Agricultural Risk Management Strategies using the ISO 9000/14000 management system standards (USDA-CSREES)
Future Activities
Plans are underway to raise $3 million for an endowment to hire a replacement for Pierre Robert as Director of the Precision Agriculture Center. Funds will also be raised to host visiting scientists from universities and industries around the world, and support graduate student research. In the interim, David Mulla will serve as Director of the Center Research will continue on several major grants related to Precision Ag. The eighth International Conference on Precision Agriculture will be held, as usual, in Minneapolis, during July, 2006.

The International Journal on Advances in the Science of Precision Agriculture
The first issue of the Precision Agriculture Journal was published on April 2, 1999.
